The incident has sparked concern over the welfare of Indian expatriates working in Kuwait without the correct permissions.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated it is time to move beyond the perspective that the West is the "bad guy" for not flooding developing country markets with goods. He said the resentment over the impact of globalization, with cheap goods inundating markets, was building up for years and not solely the West's fault. Jaishankar indirectly referred to China's trade policies. He urged shifting away from always portraying the West negatively. The EAM also discussed India's role in the Global South and the G20 Summit's achievements. Jaishankar's remarks reflect India's nuanced, pragmatic approach rather than blindly vilifying the West amid global challenges.

Indian-American Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has promised to overhaul the H-1B visa program if elected in 2024. Despite personally using H-1B visas 29 times, Ramaswamy criticized the current lottery-based system as "indentured servitude", instead advocating for a merit-based process. He aims to eliminate chain-based migration under the reformed system. Ramaswamy acknowledged the system is broken, mirroring Trump's 2016 stance despite also having previously hired H-1B workers. With over 780,000 applicants vying for 85,000 H-1B slots in 2021, demand remains incredibly high.

Canada is postponing a planned trade mission to India in October amid rising diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng called off the trip without providing a reason. The move follows Indian Prime Minister Modi scolding Canadian PM Trudeau at the recent G20 summit over Canada's support for separatist Sikh groups. India has accused Canada of promoting violence against Indian officials and places of worship. Both countries announced a pause in trade talks earlier this month to reassess relations. The postponed trade mission reflects strained ties just months after Canada and India aimed to seal an initial trade agreement this year. Ongoing discord over the Sikh separatist issue in Canada appears to be hindering economic priorities.

The Seattle Police Officers Guild has issued an apology after bodycam footage showed officer Daniel Auderer making insensitive comments about Jaahnavi Kandula, who was struck and killed by a police cruiser. Auderer was heard laughing and quoting a hypothetical lawyer saying Kandula had "limited value" due to her age. In a statement, Auderer said he was expressing frustration about the legal system's callousness and did not intend to diminish Kandula's life. The police union apologized for revictimizing Kandula's family but argued Auderer's comments were taken out of context. Nevertheless, the remarks threatened community trust in the Seattle Police Department. The union's statement comes amid ongoing scrutiny over the fatal collision.

An Indian-origin gang leader, Charan Singh, and 15 other individuals were sentenced to over 70 years in prison total for their roles in a west London organized crime group. The UK's National Crime Agency investigation found the gang likely laundered around £70 million out of the UK between 2017-2019, earned from Class A drugs and immigration crime. Singh received a 12.5-year sentence as the ringleader. Other key members received 9 years to 11 months. The NCA also uncovered a plot by the gang to smuggle 17 migrants in 2019, which was prevented through cooperation with Dutch police. In total, the convictions represent a major takedown of a prolific money laundering criminal network.
