Jaswant Singh Chail, a 21-year-old British Sikh, has apologized to King Charles III and the royal family for trespassing on Windsor Castle grounds on Christmas 2021 and threatening to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II. Chail, who was armed with a crossbow, said he wanted revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He pled guilty to treason, threats to kill, and weapon possession charges. In a letter, Chail expressed regret and embarrassment for the "horrific and worrying times" he caused. Though citing mental health issues, prosecutors seek maximum sentencing.
