Mt. Kanlaon in central Philippines erupted on Monday, sending plumes 5,000 meters high, the seismology agency said. Despite the eruption, evacuations are not recommended for residents. The alert level for the volcano remains low. Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol described the eruption as steam-driven. A four-kilometer danger zone is in place around the volcano. Mt. Kanlaon last erupted in December 2017. The Philippines, part of the Pacific "Ring of Fire," frequently experiences volcanic activity and earthquakes. Phivolcs is monitoring the situation and may raise the alert level if needed.
