Nagpur's reported temperatures of 54°C and 56°C on Thursday were due to sensor malfunctions, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Official readings showed a maximum of 44°C. Similar sensor errors caused false reports in Delhi's Mungeshpur. Meanwhile, extreme heat claimed several lives: 12 in Odisha, 8 in Bihar, and 4 in Jharkhand. IMD predicts heatwave conditions will ease soon, with an Orange alert in effect for several states.
