Severe Cyclone Remal is set to make landfall between the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh tonight, bringing extremely heavy rainfall to coastal Bengal, north Odisha, and parts of northeast India from May 26-28. With wind speeds of 110-120 kmph, gusting to 135 kmph, the cyclone is expected to cause significant damage. Flights at Kolkata’s airport are suspended for 21 hours, and ferry services are halted. The National Disaster Response Force has deployed teams, and the Indian Coast Guard is on standby for search and rescue operations. Authorities have warned residents to remain indoors and avoid coastal areas.
