Cyclone Remal to Make Landfall Tonight; West Bengal, Bangladesh on High Alert

Cyclone Remal, intensifying over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall tonight between West Bengal and Bangladesh, with winds up to 135 kmph, according to the IMD. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast for West Bengal, coastal Bangladesh, and northeastern India, including Assam and Meghalaya. The Kolkata airport will suspend flights for 21 hours starting today, and evacuations from vulnerable areas have begun. The NDRF is on high alert, ready for any emergency. Remal is the first pre-monsoon cyclone in the Bay of Bengal this season.
