A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has developed into cyclonic storm 'Remal,' set to hit between West Bengal's Sagar Island and Bangladesh's Khepupara at midnight on Sunday, warns the IMD. This marks the first cyclone of the pre-monsoon season. With wind speeds of 110 to 120 km/hr, gusting up to 135 km/hr, coastal areas face potential storm surges of 1.5 meters. West Bengal and north Odisha brace for heavy rainfall, while northeast India may experience extreme precipitation. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea until May 27, with alerts issued for affected districts.
