Kolkata airport authorities announced a 21-hour suspension of flight operations starting midnight Sunday due to Cyclone Remal's impending landfall. The decision follows warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) as the cyclonic storm intensifies over the Bay of Bengal. Dr. Somenath Dutta, an IMD scientist, forecasts Remal to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by May 26, with landfall projected between Sagar Island and Khepupara, affecting regions of Bangladesh and West Bengal. IMD predicts heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges, urging precautions in coastal areas.
