The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Cyclone Remal is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Saturday evening, crossing the West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts by Sunday midnight. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in West Bengal, with isolated heavy rainfall in North Odisha and all northeastern states. The Indian Coast Guard has deployed nine disaster relief teams to minimize loss of life and property. The IMD has issued an extreme rainfall warning in some areas, with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph expected.
