Jaspreet Oberoi, a 40-year-old Indian-origin director of a scrap metals business, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for stealing train track rails from Network Rail locations in the East of England. Oberoi, along with six others, conspired to steal rails between March and November 2016, making profits by selling them as scrap metal to legitimate customers. The gang used insider knowledge and heavy goods vehicles to transport the stolen rails to Oberoi's business, JSJ Metal Recycling. The Crown Prosecution Service hailed the conviction as a success, highlighting the criminal operation's disruption and the prevention of further thefts.
