Former BJP sarpanch Aijaz Sheikh was killed in a terrorist attack in Shopian's Hirpora area, while a couple from Jaipur was injured in a separate attack in Anantnag. Aijaz succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, while the injured couple, Farha and Tabrez, were rushed to a hospital in critical condition. The areas have been cordoned off, and search operations launched. The attacks coincide with ongoing parliamentary polls in Anantnag-Rajouri. Political leaders, including Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah, condemned the attacks, while the BJP expressed solidarity with Aijaz's family.
