More than 300 individuals received Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), with 14 presented certificates by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla in Delhi. While the applicants' origin wasn't immediately disclosed, a government source revealed most were Pakistani Hindus. Implemented through the Citizenship Amendment Rules, 2024, the CAA aims to grant citizenship to undocumented migrants from six non-Muslim communities in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. The rules empower an empowered committee for citizenship decisions, with applications processed online. Bhalla highlighted key rule features during the certificate distribution, attended by senior officials.
