Following a sales ban on Indian spices in Hong Kong and Singapore due to the presence of carcinogenic Ethylene Oxide, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has developed a new detection method. The method, validated by a national reference laboratory, is more accurate and can detect Ethylene Oxide in imported, exported, and domestically manufactured products, including packaged items. Over 1,500 samples have been collected and sent for lab tests. The new method aims to ensure the safety of Indian spices and prevent future bans.
