A tragic collision occurred between an Indian cargo ship, Sagar Yuvaraj, and a Kerala fishing boat, resulting in the loss of two lives. The incident took place 32 nautical miles from Chavakadu, leaving Abdul Salam and Gafoor dead. The fishing boat, carrying six fishermen, was on a deep-sea fishing trip from Ponnani when it was struck by the cargo ship, causing it to split in two. While the cargo ship managed to rescue four of the fishermen, the bodies of the two deceased were recovered later with the assistance of the Indian Coast Guard and Navy teams. This devastating incident has raised concerns about maritime safety and the need for greater vigilance to prevent such tragedies in the future.
