Separatist leader Amritpal Singh, currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh Jail, has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking temporary release to file his nomination for the Lok Sabha polls. He wants to contest as an independent candidate from Punjab's Sri Khadoor Sahib constituency. Singh has requested a 7-day release to complete the nomination process before the May 14 deadline. He alleges that the Punjab government and district authorities are deliberately delaying the process to prevent him from contesting. The court is yet to hear the petition.
