The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has recommended that India be designated as a 'Country of Particular Concern' (CPC) due to severe religious freedom violations. The recommendation comes alongside four other countries - Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Nigeria, and Vietnam. The USCIRF has expressed concern over deteriorating conditions in many countries and urged the US government to implement its recommendations. The commission had previously expressed disappointment that India was not designated as a CPC in December 2023, despite meeting the legal standard for violations."
