India and UK are Close to Finalizing An Agreement for Electric Propulsion Systems on Warships

India and the UK are discussing a deal to build electric propulsion systems for Indian warships, reports The Indian Express. Currently, these ships use diesel or gas turbines. The proposed agreement targets larger warships weighing over 6,000 tonnes. Last month, the UK expressed interest via a letter of intent. Indian officials are reviewing the proposal, with discussions on training, equipment, and infrastructure. Once accepted, the deal will see collaboration between GE Power Conversion and BHEL to develop the 'Integrated Full Electric Propulsion System'.
