Amidst rising concerns, US customs authorities have rejected 31% of Mahashian Di Hatti (MDH) Pvt Ltd's spice shipments since October 2023 due to salmonella contamination, doubling from the previous year's 15%. This surge coincides with Singapore and Hong Kong's suspension of MDH and Everest Food Products Pvt Ltd over alleged carcinogenic pesticide detection in spice mixes. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating, while India's Spices Board is inspecting MDH and Everest facilities for compliance. Additionally, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is sampling spices from all brands to ensure quality standards.
