RBI Extends Deputy Governor Rabi Sankar's Tenure by 1 Year

The government has extended the term of RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar for another year, effective from May 3, 2024. Sankar, who joined the RBI in 1990, previously served as the Executive Director of the central bank. His re-appointment comes after his initial appointment as Deputy Governor in May 2021 for a three-year term. With expertise in payment systems, information technology, and risk monitoring, Sankar has also worked as an IMF consultant and holds positions in various financial institutions. He holds a Master of Philosophy in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
