India is Now Second-Largest Source Country for New US Citizens: Report

According to a Congressional report, India has become the second-largest source country for new US citizens, with 65,960 Indians obtaining citizenship in the fiscal year 2022. The report highlights that out of 46 million foreign-born individuals residing in the US in 2022, approximately 53% are naturalized citizens. Despite concerns over USCIS processing backlogs, the number of pending naturalization applications has significantly reduced since FY2020. However, around 42% of India-born foreign nationals in the US are currently ineligible for citizenship. The report emphasizes variations in naturalization percentages based on immigrants' country of origin.
