A Singaporean operations technician, Leck Ching Hwa, was sentenced to four months in jail for negligence leading to the death of 30-year-old Indian national Palanivel Pandidurai. The incident occurred in September 2020 at the Singapore Refining Company plant. Palanivel died of multi-organ failure after being exposed to hydrogen sulphide gas, while two colleagues survived with serious injuries.
