In a recent analysis, it's found that 153 parliamentary constituencies are deeply concerned about the recognition of individual and community forest rights, a crucial issue in the upcoming 2024 general elections. The Forest Rights Act (FRA) of 2006 plays a pivotal role in this discourse. The analysis reveals that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clinched 103 seats in these constituencies in the 2019 elections, whereas the Congress, despite enacting the FRA, secured only 11 seats. This stark contrast underscores the significance of the FRA in influencing electoral outcomes, with the Congress trailing behind despite its historical association with tribal rights movements.
