Mohammad Abdul Arfath, a 25-year-old Indian student from Hyderabad, was discovered deceased in Cleveland, Ohio, following a month-long disappearance. The Indian consulate in New York confirmed Arfath's death, expressing distress over the incident. Arfath, pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Technology at Cleveland University, vanished around March 7. His family received a ransom call on March 19, demanding $1,200 for his release. Despite efforts to locate him, including appeals to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Arfath's fate remained unknown until his tragic discovery. This marks the 11th such incident involving Indian students in the US in 2024.
