Warship INS Kolkata returned to Mumbai with 35 pirates captured off the Somalia coast in a 40-hour operation. The pirates, seized from ex-MV Ruen, were handed over to Mumbai police for legal action under the Maritime Anti Piracy Act 2022. The operation, part of ongoing Operation Sankalp, aimed at safeguarding seafarers and trade in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden. INS Kolkata, aided by INS Subhadra, engaged the pirate ship after it refused to halt, using kinetic measures in self-defense.
