'Dear Jassi', a film inspired by a real-life honor killing in Punjab, has been selected for the official competition at the upcoming BFI London Film Festival after its world premiere at TIFF. Directed by Tarsem Singh Dhandwar and marking the debut of producer Sanjay Grover, son of actor Gulshan Grover, the film is set in the 1990s and chronicles the tragic love story of Indo-Canadian Jassi and rickshaw driver Mithu. TIFF described the film as an unblinking chronicle of injustice and immense storytelling talent. 'Dear Jassi' will compete with 9 other worldwide entries at the London festival starting October 4. Other Indian selections for screening include Hansal Mehta's 'The Buckingham Murders' starring Kareena Kapoor and the thriller 'Stolen' directed by Karan Tejpal.
