India has released the second installment of $2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), completing its annual commitment of $5 million for 2023-24. The first tranche was given in November 2022. UNRWA provides direct relief and aid programs to registered Palestinian refugees and is almost entirely funded by voluntary UN member contributions. The agency has struggled amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, appreciating India's "generous contribution" during difficult times. India's funding aims to support UNRWA's core services like healthcare, education and social services for Palestinian refugees. The latest tranche was handed over by India's Charge d'Affaires in Palestine, underscoring New Delhi's continued backing of the agency's activities in the region. Since 2018, India has donated $30 million to UNRWA to date.
