Jaskirat Singh, a 21-year-old Sikh Marine, made history by becoming the first to graduate US Marine Corps recruit training without shaving his beard or head. A federal judge ordered the Marines in April to accommodate Singh's religious practices. He completed training in San Diego wearing his turban and other Sikh articles of faith. Advocates helped Singh and 50 other Sikh Americans obtain military religious accommodations.
