Indian-origin doctor Neil K Anand has been convicted in a $2.3-million healthcare fraud case in the US. The 48-year-old Pennsylvania-based MD distributed over 20,000 oxycodone tablets through his in-house pharmacies and required patients to accept unnecessary "goody bags" to receive prescriptions. Anand also allowed medical interns to issue prescriptions and signed blank prescription sheets. He submitted false claims to Medicare and other insurers. Even during the investigation, he tried concealing $1.2 million in a family account. Convicted of multiple charges including healthcare fraud and drug distribution, Anand now faces up to 130 years in prison. (PC: India Today)
