A bench comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ahsanuddin Amanullah emphasized that Urdu is one of India’s recognized languages under the Constitution’s Eighth Schedule. They stated that language is a means of unity, not division, and is linked to culture, not religion.
