Georgia has become the first US state to introduce a bill formally recognising Hinduphobia, amid rising Hindu-hate crimes. The bipartisan bill, SB 375, was introduced in the Georgia General Assembly on April 4 and defines Hinduphobia as “antagonistic, destructive, and derogatory” attitudes towards Hinduism. It aims to amend the penal code, enabling law enforcement to address anti-Hindu discrimination. Senator Shawn Still said, “We have seen a marked increase in hate crimes against Hindus.” The bill is supported by the Coalition of Hindus of North America. Over 40,000 Hindus live in Georgia, mostly around Atlanta. Over 1,300 hate crimes were recorded since 2023. (PC: India Today)
