A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck southeast of Pangai, Tonga, on Sunday, triggering tsunami warnings for Tonga and Niue, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center cautioned that waves up to 1 meter above tide level could impact coastal areas. Authorities urged residents in low-lying areas to move to higher ground. As of now, there are no reports of casualties or major damage. Tonga, situated along the volatile Pacific Ring of Fire, frequently experiences seismic activity.
