On March 28, 2025, a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar near Mandalay, causing severe destruction. The quake killed at least 150 people, injured over 700, and destroyed infrastructure. The tremors reached Thailand, leading to the collapse of an under-construction 30-story building in Bangkok, trapping 84 workers.
