India is set to enhance its military capabilities by procuring a batch of Igla-S hand-held anti-aircraft missiles from Russia. The deal, finalized five months ago, aims to bolster the combat readiness of the Army in sensitive forward locations. The Igla-S, an advanced version, will replace the early 1990s Igla missiles currently in use. India is also considering local production of these Russian missile systems as part of the Make-in-India initiative.
