Comedian Kunal Kamra's recent performance in Mumbai has sparked significant controversy. During his act, Kamra parodied a song, implying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is a "traitor" ("gaddar") due to his 2022 political defection. This portrayal angered members of Shinde's Shiv Sena faction, leading to police complaints and alleged vandalism at the performance venue. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske accused Kamra of accepting money to target Shinde and warned of nationwide protests against him. Conversely, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut shared Kamra's video, captioning it "Kunal Ka Kamal." In response to the escalating tensions, Maharashtra's MoS Home, Yogesh Ramdas Kadam, emphasized the importance of respecting constitutional positions while acknowledging freedom of speech.
