Subsequently, 21-year-old Hardik Kamboj was apprehended in Yamunanagar, Haryana, and confessed to the act. During a weapon recovery operation in Jalandhar, Kamboj attempted to flee and opened fire on police; he was injured in the ensuing exchange and hospitalized.
