Karnataka’s Director General of Police (DGP), K Ramachandra Rao, has been placed on compulsory leave amidst an investigation into his stepdaughter, actress Ranya Rao, involved in a major gold smuggling case. Ranya was arrested for attempting to smuggle 14.2 kg of gold worth ₹12.5 crore from Dubai. The case is under investigation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the CBI, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), probing a larger international smuggling syndicate. Ramachandra Rao's possible involvement in using his position to aid the operation is being scrutinized by authorities.
