A nationwide strike by German airport workers has led to hundreds of flight cancellations, affecting over 500,000 passengers. The Verdi trade union, demanding an 8% pay rise, began industrial action at Hamburg Airport before expanding to major hubs, including Frankfurt, Munich, and Berlin. Lufthansa reported "extensive cancellations," while Munich Airport warned of a "greatly reduced flight schedule." Waste collection workers in Berlin and other cities also joined the strike. Verdi insists the disruption is necessary to secure better wages, while employers call the demands unaffordable. Talks are scheduled for Friday in Potsdam.
