Pakistan has discovered a massive gold deposit worth approximately ₹80,000 crore in the Attock district of Punjab province. The gold, found along the Indus River, is believed to have originated from India's Himalayan region, transported downstream over time. This placer gold, characterized by its rounded nuggets, offers Pakistan a significant economic opportunity amid its current financial challenges. The National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) and the Punjab Mines and Minerals Department are collaborating to auction mining rights for nine gold blocks. Experts suggest that successful extraction could bolster Pakistan's gold reserves, reduce reliance on imports, and stabilize its economy. However, concerns about illegal mining have prompted the government to enforce strict regulations to ensure sustainable and legal extraction practices.
