India’s first medical clinic for transgender people has shut down after US President Donald Trump stopped foreign aid. Mitr Clinic, which provided HIV treatment and counselling, closed in Hyderabad, Pune, and Thane. The clinic, funded by USAID, served around 6,000 people. Staff say 75-80% of patients accessed healthcare for the first time. "Transgender people are not treated properly in general hospitals," said Rachana Mudraboyina, who managed the clinic. The Trump administration’s aid freeze has impacted many global health projects. Clinic staff are now searching for new funding to continue their work.
