Benjamin Elliott, 21, from Houston, United States was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 2021 murder of his twin sister, Meghan, when they were both 17. Elliott claimed he was sleepwalking during the attack and believed he was dreaming. He found his sister with a knife in her neck, removed it, and attempted CPR before calling 911. Despite his defense, supported by a neurologist's testimony on parasomnias (sleep disorders including sleepwalking), the jury found him guilty. Evidence showed Elliott was using his cellphone immediately before the stabbing and had stifled Meghan’s screams with a pillow. Prosecutors highlighted that the knife used was obtained the night before the murder, pointing to premeditation.
