In recent months, Thai authorities have intensified efforts to curb illegal immigration along the Thailand-Myanmar border. Notably, on November 16, 2024, 70 individuals, including 30 children, suspected to be Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar, were detained in Thailand's Phang Nga province. They claimed to be en route to Malaysia or Indonesia. Subsequently, on December 11, 2024, 84 Rohingya individuals were arrested in Kanchanaburi province after crossing from Myanmar, each reportedly paying 75,000 Thai Baht to brokers for the journey. Additionally, in September 2023, seven Bangladeshi men were apprehended in Songkhla province for illegal entry, having posed as Buddhist monks to evade detection while intending to reach Malaysia. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges of human trafficking and illegal migration in the region.
