Iran Expands Near-Weapons-Grade Uranium Stockpile Amid Nuclear Tensions

Iran has significantly increased its stockpile of uranium enriched to near weapons-grade levels, according to a new report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The country now possesses 142.1 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60%, nearing the threshold for nuclear weapons production. This marks a 20.6-kilogram rise since the last IAEA report. The agency also expressed concerns over Iran’s continued restrictions on inspections. These developments come amid stalled diplomatic efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, raising tensions between Iran and Western nations, particularly the U.S. and European allies, who fear further nuclear escalation.
