A second flight carrying Indian immigrants deported from the US is set to land in Amritsar on February 15, sources said. This follows a February 5 flight carrying 104 deportees. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema questioned why deportation flights were not landing in Gujarat or Haryana, accusing the BJP-led government of targeting Punjab. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that 487 Indians have received removal orders. Deportees alleged mistreatment, with hands and legs shackled during the flight. India has deported 15,668 illegal immigrants from the US since 2009, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
