Deportees alleged they were handcuffed and had their legs chained throughout the flight. Jaspal Singh, a deportee from Punjab, said they were only unshackled upon arrival. Many paid agents lakhs for illegal entry into the US, facing dangerous journeys via multiple countries. US officials have prepared a list of 18,000 undocumented Indians for deportation. The mass deportation comes days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington for talks with President Donald Trump.
