India's Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma has informed the BCCI of his plans to step down as captain after the ICC Champions Trophy. In a review meeting with the board, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and head coach Gautam Gambhir, Rohit reportedly assured he would lead for a few more months, urging the BCCI to identify a successor. While Jasprit Bumrah was suggested as a potential long-term captain, concerns about his fitness and leadership in extended Test series were raised. The BCCI is expected to finalize India's captaincy roadmap during the upcoming 5-match Test series against England post-IPL 2025.
