A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake rocked Tibet on Tuesday morning, killing at least 53 people and injuring 62, as per Chinese state media. The epicenter was in Tingri, 23 km from Shigatse, a city home to the Tashilhunpo Monastery. Several aftershocks followed, with magnitudes up to 4.4. Tremors were felt across Nepal, Bhutan, and northern India, including Delhi-NCR. The quake, caused by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, led to widespread damage in Dingri County. Nepalese authorities reported no casualties. This area has experienced 10 magnitude-6+ quakes in the past century, highlighting its seismic vulnerability.
