UK to Require Pre-Travel Authorization for Visitors from 48 Countries

Starting January 8, travelers from 48 non-EU countries, including the US, Canada, and Australia, must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before flying to the UK. This new rule affects visitors who don’t need a visa for short stays. The application costs £10 and can be completed online or via an official app. The ETA is valid for two years, allowing multiple entries. Even travelers transiting through the UK must apply for the ETA. EU citizens will need one from April 2, 2025. The ETA is not a visa, and it doesn’t guarantee entry into the UK.
