India has requested Pakistan to expedite the release and repatriation of 183 Indian fishermen and civilian prisoners who have completed their sentences. During the biannual exchange of prisoner lists under the 2008 agreement, India also sought immediate consular access for 18 presumed Indian nationals in Pakistani custody. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized the need for humanitarian care and nationality verification for prisoners. Pakistan reciprocated by sharing details of 49 civilian prisoners and 217 fishermen in its custody. Since 2014, India has facilitated the return of 2,639 fishermen and 71 civilian prisoners from Pakistan.
