Chennai Airport Suspends Operations, Schools Closed as Cyclone Fengal Hits Tamil Nadu

Cyclone Fengal has disrupted Chennai as it nears landfall, bringing heavy rains and winds of up to 90 km/h. Chennai Airport suspended operations from 12 PM to 7 PM, affecting flights. Schools and colleges in several districts, including Chennai, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvallur, are closed, while East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road are temporarily shut. The city has faced severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Relief operations are underway, with 22,000 workers deployed and over 300 relief centres established. The IMD issued a Red Alert, warning of extreme rainfall throughout the day.
