India Urges Bangladesh To Protect Minorities, Dhaka Responds With Criticism

India urged the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in Bangladesh to protect the rights of religious minorities, citing concerns over violence against Hindus. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the need for a "just, fair, and transparent" trial for Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, arrested on sedition charges. Bangladesh’s Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul criticized India, pointing to communal violence against Muslims in India. Tensions escalated after protests in Kolkata saw Bangladesh's flag burned. Dhaka condemned the incident and demanded safety for its missions in India, calling India’s remarks “undesirable concern” and its actions “duplicity.”
